It's hard to believe, but this is my 7th holiday-themed lyric quiz. I'm running out of carols, folks. So these are just some of my particular favorites. Fall on your knees! Happy Holidays.

The turning of the year means that ListMania is upon us! Stephen King's list of the best 10 books he read in EW; CNBC's take on the 10 biggest merger deals; E! Entertainment Television's list of the most jaw-dropping nip slips (or whatever).

Today I became thoroughly depressed upon reading Rolling Stone's list of the top-100 songs of the year. First of all, try as I might, I am so out of touch with the youth of the U.S. of A. It wasn't so long ago (was it?) that I would hurry away from Sunday lunch so that I could compulsively write down every song of that week's American Top 40. And what's better is that I knew each every one of those songs during a particular eight-year sweep, from Linear to Louie Louie, Sweet Sensation to Skee-Lo. On this year's top 10, I am familiar with three of the songs, seven of the artists. Second of all, Chamillionaire? At number 3? It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world.

So? Feck 'em. Here is my own list of my top 21 songs of the year (part 1 of 2). Each holiday season Mr. Whirled and I make a CD chronicling the year's "musical discoveries" to distribute with our friends and fam (thanks to [info]girl_about_town for the killer idea). 63-cent stamps add up over time, so I'll share the wealth with you fine folk in this forum (change the "xxs" in the links to "tts" to make http).
