rushedThe turning of the year means that ListMania is upon us! Stephen King's list of the best 10 books he read in EW; CNBC's take on the 10 biggest merger deals; E! Entertainment Television's list of the most jaw-dropping nip slips (or whatever).
Today I became thoroughly depressed upon reading Rolling Stone's list of the top-100 songs of the year. First of all, try as I might, I am so out of touch with the youth of the U.S. of A. It wasn't so long ago (was it?) that I would hurry away from Sunday lunch so that I could compulsively write down every song of that week's American Top 40. And what's better is that I knew each every one of those songs during a particular eight-year sweep, from Linear to Louie Louie, Sweet Sensation to Skee-Lo. On this year's top 10, I am familiar with three of the songs, seven of the artists. Second of all, Chamillionaire? At number 3? It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world.
So? Feck 'em. Here is my own list of my top 21 songs of the year (part 1 of 2). Each holiday season Mr. Whirled and I make a CD chronicling the year's "musical discoveries" to distribute with our friends and fam (thanks to
girl_about_town for the killer idea). 63-cent stamps add up over time, so I'll share the wealth with you fine folk in this forum (change the "xxs" in the links to "tts" to make http).
