Yeah, I've been neglecting this blog. Not sure why. Not much going on in the entertainment biz that I care about, spending time settling into Chicago, devoting more effort to Facebook. C'est la vie.

Why is "New Year" capitalized in "Happy New Year?" No one can tell me the answer.

Did I mention we sold the albatross of a house? Closed on December 20. A true Christmas miracle. Was on the market for less than 4 months and I recognize and appreciate that we are so much luckier than most. I send positive thoughts to many of my friends (with houses for sale for 6, 10, 18 months) every day.

And Mr. Whirled and I saw Juno this past weekend. Both of us really enjoyed it, as I figured I would. Of course the rumors were true of no Bateman/Cera shared screen time (tragic for us Arrested Development fans), but the discovery of the awesomeness of Ellen Page and the supporting work of the always-versatile Allison Janney made up for it. Almost. Kicking soundtrack, to boot. Oh - I don't write reviews for my company newsletter anymore because I'm not sure it (the newsletter) even exists. And the woman who used to send me free passes for my efforts is no longer with the company. And it costs TEN-FIFTY to see a movie here, or $8.00 for a bleeding matinee. So.

Main New Year's resolution? No TV at least 1 night a week, maybe 2. I've got to got to GOT to make a dent in my "to read" pile.

I used to have this theory, that seemed plausible, that a show would rarely, RARELY, be canceled after its third season. A fourth season, you see, meant syndication rights (or so I once heard), which means big money, which means milk those ratings-challenged shows for ONE MORE YEAR to score some sweet syndicated dollar. First or second season = vulnerability; fourth season = vulnerability. Third season = smooth sailing. What?

But for the second time in as many years, I've been kicked in the proverbial nads. Last year, FOX unceremoniously dumped Arrested Development on its ass, and I've never quite recovered. And today, after yanking and yanking and yanking all of our chains, the word is official that my beloved Veronica Mars, with brooding Logan and snarky Vinnie Van Lowe and scampish Dick and quirky Mac and etc. etc. etc. is also prematurely dead after a third season.

Sigh. At least AD saw the writing on the wall and wrapped things up fairly neatly. We will get no resolution for Veronica and pals. Probably will never know where Lianne is, about whom I care, for some unknown reason.

At least The Office lives on, season finale-ing tonight, in fact.

In COMPLETELY RELATED news, the Pussycat Dolls can go f*ck themselves.

Ugh.
God damn you, FOX Networks, for taunting us with promises of an hour-long Arrested Development episode, complete with William Hung and Justine Bateman cameos. Damn you for, until about two hours ago, advertising this on your VERY OWN WEBSITE. And damn you for replacing it with two reruns of House instead. House is perfectly good TV, but AD it isn't, and besides? Reruns.

Seriously? That's just toying with all of us who prefer this brilliantly written sitcom to, oh, The War at [Fecking] Home. Or Stacked. I mean ... come ON!

Venting over.
