I must say I'm a little nonplussed that my favorite Nirvana song ("Breed") is now being used to shill this video game:

God help. I feel so very un-hardcore. And other than being fast-rocking and energetic, what does this song have anything to do with baseball OR with gaming? Of course, the world is condemning Courtney Love.

An article in this week's Entertainment Weekly about Rashida "Karen Filippelli" Jones led me to You Tube, where I found these lovely commercials, about which I'd totally forgotten (she's in two of them if you watch very closely):

Everybody in vests. (My very favorite, and is that Merrin "Francie in Alias" Dungey I spot as well?)
Everybody in leather.
Everybody in cords.

Rashida is in this one as well.

Whosoever conceived and green-lit the new Tic-Tac Bold television ad campaign must be seriously ignorant or have a seriously wicked juvenille sense of subversive humor. The whole thing is equal parts revolting and retarded.

We're sitting here watching basketball, of course. Well, I'm halfway watching, halfway reading Book Number 9 of the year (Ian McEwan's Saturday) and I just caught the new Papa John's campaign for their 17-meat pizza or whatever. Now, pizza meat (sausage, pepperoni, etc.) is about the one food item I'm not crazy about, but that's beside the point. They use the Go-Gos "We've Got the Beat" as the jingle, but change it, predictably, to "We've Got the Meat." This is of course annoying and what not, but I have to wonder what Jane Wiedlin, baby-voiced guitarist for the Go-Gos and animal-rights activist for two-plus decades, feels about it. Probably not too good.

So yeah, I used the Ti-Faux to fast-forward THROUGH the game to get to the commericals. Hee.

Favorite ads:
1. Macgyver buys tube socks on debit Mastercard
2. AB - Baby Clydesdale pushes the cart
3. AB - Streaking sheep
4. Sierra Mist (only because Kathy Griffin and Michael Ian Black are like, my two favorite people EVER)
5. CareerBuilder - monkeys and jackasses wearing SUITS
6. Kermit shills for the Ford Escape

Honorable mentions to Ameriquest, Aleve, the Budweiser "Wave" with the sign flippage, and Dove.

Least Favorite:
1. Whopperettes (I realize it's supposed to be campy, but it killed my will to live. And that King still fecking scares me).
2. Diet Pepsi - P. Ditty brown and bubbly (although I do like Jay Mohr resurecting his Bob Sugar character)
3. Pizza Hut - Slutty, vapid, $800,000-richer Jessica Simpson and her popping bites
4. Cadillac Escalade - vehicle emerges, dripping with God knows what, from the runway
5. H3 - "Love is Strange" with the pregnant Godzilla. Creepy and unsettling.

Dishonerable mentions to FedEx and Taco Bell.

How 'bout cookin' something up with processed canned meat products?

I don't mean to sound like a snobby, holier-than-thou, old-fashioned, asshole. But. Have we all seen the commerical where the Mom is so terribly overwhelmed that she can't possibly bring herself to make Hamburger Helper? Because it's SO FECKING time-consuming and difficult. I realize it's all marketing for those ghastly Homestyle Bakes products (I've tried them, they aren't good), but girl? Please. Next to plain spaghetti n' Ragu (and take out), Hamburger Helper is the easiest thing I make for dinner. Man, I hope Mr. Whirled appreciates it.
