Wow, I woke up at 7:55 a.m., thought "I've only slept for four-plus hours; will lay back down for a minute" and woke at 11:20. Christ on toast. $1.50 Blue Moon drafts are most excellent.
Lil' Peeps Raxaroke was fun, although the K.J. was totes lazy. Preferred to play the "dance" hits of Hinder and Arctic Monkeys for 45 minutes or so, at three different times, so he could play darts and drink and what not. Poor form. "Electric Slide" twice. God. Had he been normal and dedicated, I probably could have sung 7-8 times. As it was, I got four selections out. All new for me. Thanks to
tcrawfor and
girl_about_town for the suggestions.
1. "Stuck in the Middle With You," First song of the entire night. Good for my range, upbeat and fun, Sheryl Crow totally stole the music of this one, by the way. I give it a solid A- and will add it to the list of standbys.
2. "Surrender," Cheap Trick. For those of you who give a damn, the intro is in the key of "B" and then the vocals change higher into "C." I pulled it off. Not as high-energy as I'd hoped, because it was early in the evening and followed back-to-back from Stealer's Wheel, and I felt odd about being up there for 9 straight minutes. Give it a B-.
3. "867-5309 (Jenny)," Tommy Tutone. Sorry,
blathering. Please do not disown me. This was fun but just okay. The lyrics read"Damnit Jenny, who can I turn to," which I don't think is correct. It's "Jenny, Jenny," right? Why would he be cursing this girl he's never met but enjoys masturbating to? C+.
4. "Take it Easy," The Eagles. The performance was fine, but it was not an Eagles crowd. Eagle moustache, eagle sky. B-.
E'beth from my book club came out and kicked fecking ass at "Killing Me Softly" and "Criminal." I never knew the gal had such a voice in her. Nic rocked out "Me and Bobby McGee," as she does, shortly after quietly tolerating some ignorant wife-beater-wearing cretin at the next table -- definitely drunk, hopefully mentally slow, possibly straight out of the federal lock-up, who thought it awesome to boast about being a white man not afraid to shout the "N" word. I'm so pleased that Michael Richards has paved the way for the ignorant.
rhodesy and
leona_roja ventured East in support of our mad vocal skillz but couldn't stay too long due to the cloud of smoke hovering over the place and making non-smokers fairly miserable. I'm often a social smoker, but damn am I hoping for St. Louis metro to go the way of NYC, Cali, and all of Ohio. Girls, did you hit the club on your way home?
sheeeva7 wins the prize of the night for driving 45 minutes to get to this dive, singing Counting Crows, Joss Stone, Xtina, and No Doubt awesomely, and staying as late as Mr. Whirled and I DESPITE having to work at 6:00 a.m. today and deal with her two young children. Yay for rock-star friends.
Also? A little person was there, drunk, with a dyed black mohawk and an orange "County Jail" tee shirt. And large hoop earnings.
And that is all. Gorgeous day here today. Think we'll ride bikes, do some cleaning, grill out. I wish I hadn't slept away three hours of the morning, but I guess I needed it.
