Girls' Top 12
I am getting some heat for not starting my reviews of Idol just yet. I am currently out of town for work, but here are my two-second thoughts on last night's episode:

Mandisa. Phenomenal voice, amazing stage presence, best song choice of the night. Definitely a favorite to win.

Kellie Pickler. A cute girl and a good voice. If you're at a karaoke bar in Southwest Missouri. [Cowell Accent] But this is American Idol we're takling about, and that just wasn't good enough. [/Cowell Accent]

Becky O'Donahue. Weird, affected vocals. And the bangs. My God, the BANGS.

Ayla Brown. Good voice, but as interesting to watch as the Winter Olympics. ZING!

Paris Bennett. Wicked energetic and quite talented. Amazingly centered for her age. But she won't win.

Stevie Scott. Talented, sweet, lovely. Doomed.

Brenna Gethers. She may be in trouble because she's been portrayed as such a king kemaya maya beyatch. And for good reason, as she kept casting visual aspersions from the balcony last night. So who is going to vote for her? Other beyatches. And her voice? Not good, btw.

Heather Cox. Eeek. A dead ringer for Kim Raver (Audrey on "24.") But her voice is not quite as good as mine, especially on low notes. This is not a good thing.

Melissa McGhee Nice smokey voice and a cute enough girl. She may get Aloha'd due to lack of face time.

Lisa Tucker Powerful vocals and adorable girl. But I think I like her Mom better.

Kinnik Sky Mature, poised, graceful. Forgettable. And she lost me with the Oleta Adams selection.

Katherine McPhee Adorable, likeable, wicked powerful vocals. One of my favorites as well.

Out on Thursday? Probably Stevie and Kinnik. Perhaps Heather. Maybe Brenna.

I may or may not see the guys' show tonight.

Okay, I'm really REALLY irritated at myself. I completely forgot to set the fake tivo to tape this, as I was watching figure skating instead. Damn.

So...how oftne is it on now, more than weekly? And always on the same days? Suppose I could just go check the danged schedule myself, but hey. :)

This week is brutal. Two hours yesterday, two hours tonight, and a one-hour result show on Thursday. Once they get down to top 12 (6 girls, 6 guys), then it is 1-2 hours on Tuesday and 1/2 hour on Wednesday, which isn't really worth watching (it is just a "results" show).

Double damn. Wonder if Ken can find it online...

Thanks for the info. :)

Yeah ... I'd guess you can find it on a torrent site in a day or two. I did that with the Austin auditions, which I forgot to tape...

Oh My God, Becky
I rehearsed "Because the Night" with the archer>malmo band and it just does. not. work. Somehow Natalie Merchant can nail it because she does it softer without the rock edge, but I think that owes a lot of credit to the cooler 10,000 Maniacs instrumentation. When Bruce Springsteen does it, it's raw-er, but still kind of droning. Anyway, my heart went out to her because she probably has a decent voice, but she totally picked the wrong song and oversang it the completely wrong way.

Yay Katharine!

Eeee! Good to know. It has been one I wanted to try.

In similar news, I am thisclose to being ready with "The Real Slim Shady." Y'all act like you never seen a white person before ...

Mom and I agree Brenna may need your patented "Mother Fuckin'" designation. Or something similar. She was such a raging bitch last night. There's a line you cross between conceited (Stevie) and bitch (Brenna). She's obviously defensive over something, but someone needs to take her aside and tell her to chill the hell out.

And I love Mandisa. Mandisa rules.

I'll repeat my texted comments from last night with a few additions that were too hard to type out on my phone.

  • Are there more super young contestants this year?
  • The girl who talked about Mulan being such an inspiration sounded 12 not 17.
  • And I'm sorry I do not wish to re-live the 70s, so make them stop with the 70s hair & outfits.
  • Paris, that hair didn't really work for Gladys either.
  • I thought it was helluva funny that Seacrest stood on a box to interview one of those amazon girls.
